- Most of the Lyalls' names come from the movie The Prestige.
- Merritt Lyall, while growing up under his father’s watchful eyes, was the Bertram Valley pack’s main guard as his brother - Cutter - was a practiced medic. When the Lyall brothers left their parents’ care, a wandering hunter and skilled botanist - Sorrel - joined the duo to find a territory of their own. Their lessons have helped Borden become a well-rounded wolf. However, with time, Borden has retained little of what they had taught him and only remembers just enough to scrape by. It has been noted that Borden, due to his Uncle’s educational walks, knows more about fruits and berries and where to find them than anything else pertaining to plants and trees. Angier, on the other hand, does know a little bit about medicinal herbs.
- In the summer of 2008, Merritt and Sorrel faced a dilemma in which their pack was nearly caught amidst a designated hunting area. With Cutter's help along with two other wolves he had recruited, they were able to move - with all five yearlings in tow - quietly to safety and higher ground. This experience has left terrifying impressions on Borden in particular, who later almost fell victim to a poacher right before arriving to Relic Lore.
- Prosper, Hocus, and Trisden were among the first puppies to be born on Ruins of Wildwood.
